Peterborough Blood Testing FAQs
Everything you need to know about our private mobile testing service with Peterborough Blood Testing FAQs.
What tests are available?
We offer a comprehensive range of tests including general health checks, energy levels, hormone profiles, thyroid function, and sports performance monitoring. Bespoke testing is also available, contact us if you have a specific test needed.
Do I need to fast?
Most blood tests do not require fasting. If fasting or specific timing is required you will be told when booking. Follow the instructions provided for your particular panel and do not fast unnecessarily.
How should I prepare?
Stay well-hydrated. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before testing. Wear loose clothing, so sleeves can be rolled above the elbow. Keep warm. Ensure you are relaxed and comfortable. Do not stop or alter prescribed medication unless advised by your prescribing clinician.
What happens during the test?
Your identity, selected tests and consent before collecting the required samples will be confirmed. You may feel a brief scratch or sting during the procedure. The appointment usually takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes depending on the service required.
How are results delivered?
Results are processed at a UK-accredited laboratory and delivered securely via email within 24-48 hours. Turnaround times vary between tests, some specialist tests may take longer. You will receive a confidential report detailing your biomarker levels.
What if I feel faint?
Please tell us before your appointment your blood can be taken while you are reclined or lying down and additional time can be allowed to help you feel comfortable. Inform us if you have previously fainted or experienced difficulties during blood collection.
What happens if a result is outside the reference range?
A result outside the laboratory's reference range does not always indicate a medical condition. Results can be affected by factors such as age, medication, hydration, exercise and recent illness. Your report will identify any results outside the reference range. If the laboratory identifies a result requiring urgent attention, you will be contacted promptly and advised to seek appropriate medical care. Peterborough blood testing does not diagnose medical conditions and you may be advised to discuss abnormal results with your GP or clinician.
Why might a blood film be requested?
If your full blood count shows an abnormality involving the red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets, the laboratory will automatically do a blood film test for further examination. A blood film allows the laboratory to examine the appearance of the blood cells in greater detail by a haematologist. This is not required for every result outside the reference range and may occur when considered appropriate by the laboratory. The additional charge is £20 and you will be informed of this additional test. This follow up is part of our duty of care to ensure the relevant laboratory findings are appropriately checked.
Can i have someone with me during my appointment?
Yes, you're welcome to have a trusted adult, family member, friend, carer, advocate or support worker present during your appointment. If you'd prefer a formal chaperone, please contact us before booking so that your requirements and the available arrangements can be discussed. Your privacy, dignity, comfort and consent will be respected throughout your appointment.
Do you support autistic people, and people with a learning disability?
Yes, we are committed to providing respectful, person-centred care and making reasonable adjustments wherever possible. Please tell us about any communication, sensory, mobility or support needs when booking. Adjustments may include allowing additional time, explaining each stage clearly, reducing sensory distractions, taking breaks or having a trusted person present. We'll discuss your individual preferences with you before the appointment so that the experience can be made as comfortable and predictable as possible.
